Artist's Description
I wanted to call this "Refuse", as in garbage. But I continued to pursue it, adding, subtracting, refining and reclaiming it. Then, I realized the title is 'Refuse", as in refusing to give up! If you contrast this piece with the lighthearted one titled "Within the Lines" that i recently published, you will see polar ends of my alcohol ink experience. Within the Lines is about discovery and restraint, allowing the inks to dictate to ME what they want to BE, whereas this one is about refusing to give up until the painting yields to me something of value. Kind of like how we are supposed to pursue friendships and marriage and relationships, in LOVE. Love refuses to give up on people, no matter what. '
Thanks for looking and I hope you like it.
About Christy Sawyer
I've been painting since I was nine years old when my mother put a brush in my hand and said, "This is how you do it." I must have been a good listener. My career as a a painter has come in waves, however. It has taken me a lifetime, but I am now a full-time painter. A few years ago I challenged myself to do a painting a day; hence, the eye paintings. I recently lost my husband of 47 years. As part of my bereavement, I visited my artist/sister, KC Pollak, in Colorado. We spent nearly all day for 10 days in her art cabin making alcohol ink paintings. What a joyful, healing time! And I found a new love and passion. Now I live my work and love my life even more.
