Artist's Description

The place where I live has have had a very rainy, stormy summer, hot as well! I try to live in the moment, and not wish away one minute or hour of summertime; it has been particularly challenging for me to stay actively involved in outdoor activities such as walking my dogs or caring for the yard. So, instead of yard work I'm catching up on some of my ink painting, which is a good thing!

Storm Clouds was created with very little direct interaction with the ink as it was drying, which gave deeper puddles of intense ink. Then with a brush and a little bit of air I floated ink away from some of the edges, thinning it, creating transparency. The choice of intense reds and grays generates energy and a type of drama all it's own. I then utilized ink and brush work to define one of the bigger areas, giving it a crisp border and creating motion throughout the painting. There, I hope you like it and thanks for looking!

About Christy Sawyer

Christy Sawyer

I've been painting since I was nine years old when my mother put a brush in my hand and said, "This is how you do it." I must have been a good listener. My career as a a painter has come in waves, however. It has taken me a lifetime, but I am now a full-time painter. A few years ago I challenged myself to do a painting a day; hence, the eye paintings. I recently lost my husband of 47 years. As part of my bereavement, I visited my artist/sister, KC Pollak, in Colorado. We spent nearly all day for 10 days in her art cabin making alcohol ink paintings. What a joyful, healing time! And I found a new love and passion. Now I live my work and love my life even more.
