Artist's Description

Emergence--Sliver Okay, here I go again, talking about how my paintings 'speak' to me... and since you might think I'm bonkers, I'll go ahead and tell you what I mean: I painted this simple gesture and set it aside for days. I was continually drawn to it, puzzling over what was needed, something added or subtracted, taking a great deal of time to "hear" what the painting was telling me. I began to pull out the ink along the edges with pure alcohol and a brush, creating "washy" areas of transparency. Then I used the airbrush to blow tiny tendrils away from the main area of interest. This now speaks to me in a tender, tremulous, vulnerable voice, rather shyly, of sweetness and mystery... just a glimpse of a directional, an emergence from what was and what could be.... Anyway, thank you for looking and I hope you enjoy it.

About Christy Sawyer

Christy Sawyer

I've been painting since I was nine years old when my mother put a brush in my hand and said, "This is how you do it." I must have been a good listener. My career as a a painter has come in waves, however. It has taken me a lifetime, but I am now a full-time painter. A few years ago I challenged myself to do a painting a day; hence, the eye paintings. I recently lost my husband of 47 years. As part of my bereavement, I visited my artist/sister, KC Pollak, in Colorado. We spent nearly all day for 10 days in her art cabin making alcohol ink paintings. What a joyful, healing time! And I found a new love and passion. Now I live my work and love my life even more.
